Spring Fashion in Miami: Deborah Yager Fleming’s Guide To The Season’s Hottest Trends

Deborah Yager Fleming

As temperatures heat up in Miami each spring, so does the fashion. Inspired by the city’s electric energy and its beachy locale, spring trends in Miami are always bold, fresh, and as fun as the destination itself.

If you’re making your way to the Magic City this spring, punch up your wardrobe with some of the season’s hottest picks, straight from Acqualina CEO and style aficionado Deborah Yager Fleming. Here are the chic staples she’s loving for spring 2019.

Pink Power Colors

Sally Lapointe Acqualina Miami Spring Fashion“Magenta is making a great statement this spring — how could anyone not like the strong pink power mode that it represents?” says Yager Fleming. She loves this Sally LaPointe sweater to make a splash: “[It] incorporates not only a color of the season but also feathers, which is trending too. It goes great with her slim leg track pants.” For upscale evening events, “Brandon Maxwell has a great wrap gown in this color that will never go out of style,” says Yager Fleming.

Beach-Inspired Accessories

Chanel Acqualina Miami Spring Fashion“When I think of pink this season, I can’t help but think of Chanel’s round pink-and-white beach ball bag and [the rest of] Karl Lagerfeld’s ready-to-wear show last October,” says Yager Fleming. “He transformed the Grand Palais in Paris into a sunny and sandy shore beach experience for his spring-summer 2019 collection. I will forever miss his genius of modern creativity and fashion greatness.” Pay homage to the prolific designer with this fabulously playful handbag.

Pops of Coral + Mixed Patterns

Chanel Acqualina Miami Spring FashionPlaying on pink, orange, and red hues, coral is one of the trendiest shades to dive into this spring. “I was thrilled when Pantone released its color of the year as Living Coral because orange is my favorite color,” says Yager Fleming. “I’m also loving the mixed-pattern trend this season in this color. It evokes happiness to me.” Use this Chanel Spring-Summer 2019 runway ensemble as inspiration.

Monochromatic Chic Looks

Fendi Acqualina Miami Spring FashionOn the opposite end of the color spectrum, muted hues are having a stylish moment for spring. “I was delighted to see many designers using monochromatic colors since soft colors can allow one’s own personality to be the stand out,” says Yager Fleming. “Fendi has a great shoulder strap dress that is elegant and timeless.” She also loves Fendi’s Logo Short-Sleeve Sweater in Guava paired with their Beige Mohair Skirt.

Modern, Comfortable Flats

Rothy's Acqualina Miami Spring Fashion“I am obsessed with flat shoes. I tried to get into the designer sneaker look, and I have a couple of pairs—they are fun but my go-to seems to always be a nice looking flat shoe,” says Yager Fleming. They’re great when heels simply aren’t an option, too. “Since I am recovering from hurting my back, I have been wearing flats every day,” she says. “When I searched for comfortable shoes that I could wear to the office, for errands, and weekend walks, I discovered Rothy’s flats. They are made from recycled water bottles and are machine washable!” Yager Fleming likes The Point style, and recently bought three pairs: Black, Chili Red, and wild-meets-chic Grey Zebra.

Polished Carry-All Totes

From trendy food halls to the always-exciting Miami Open, there’s no shortage of things to do in Miami in the spring. When you’re exploring it all, a great on-the-go tote is a must. “I am a fan of Louis Vuitton’s  NéoNoé bucket bag as a tote bag for this season,” says Yager Fleming. “It looks so stylish, and it comes in several colors — I love the green and blue combination.”

Classic Miami Maxi Dresses

Taj By Sabrina Acqualina Miami Spring Fashion“You can never go wrong with a maxi dress for Miami living,” says Yager Fleming. They’re fun, comfortable and always on-trend in South Florida.  “We have a fabulous boutique at Acqualina that carries several custom pieces for us, making the boutique worth a visit when you’re in the area or staying at the resort.  I love to pop in and see the new arrivals from Taj by Sabrina.”

Stylish Shades

Chic sunglasses are always an elemental accessory in sunny Miami. For this spring, Yager Fleming loves these rose metal-accented acetate frames by Westward Leaning. “Oliva Palermo designed these Seaspray sunglasses, perfect for a workday or beach day,” she says.

A Day-To-Night Handbag

A chic compact handbag is another must-have. “[I recommend] a designer handbag that can be worn during the day and evening  — the perfect selection is Dior’s Mini Saddle Bag in black embossed grained calfskin,” says Yager Fleming.

Staple Sandals

A stylish sandal is a no-fail spring essential, especially in Miami. “This year I favored Gucci’s leather sandal with the double G,” says Yager Fleming. With its sandy shade and gold hardware, it plays well with almost any spring ensemble. Plus, its hue ties into the season’s monochromatic trend.

Simply Flattering Dresses

Round out your Miami spring wardrobe another one of Yager Fleming’s seasonal staples: a Karen Millen dress. “I just bought their snakeskin print,” she says. It’s both stylishly sophisticated and a little bit wild — just like Miami itself.
